How Cancellation Windows Actually Work

Why the best tee times seem to disappear the second they open, and where they actually come from when one shows up again.

The booking window problem

Almost every golf course, public or private, only opens its tee sheet a fixed number of days before the actual round. Denver Parks & Recreation courses open reservations seven days out. Other courses open theirs anywhere from three days to two weeks ahead. The moment that window opens, the good weekend slots, early morning tee times, prime Saturday and Sunday windows, get booked within minutes. If you're not online the exact moment the window opens, you're already behind.

So where do the "new" openings come from?

This is the part most people never figure out. Even after a course looks fully booked, times keep reopening right up until the round. Groups shrink from four players to two. Someone's plans change. A course adjusts pricing or availability internally. Most courses also let golfers cancel up to a certain point, often 24 to 48 hours out, without a penalty, and when they do, that slot goes right back onto the public tee sheet exactly as if it had never been booked.

That means the real opportunity for a lot of Denver tee times isn't the initial booking window at all. It's the slow trickle of cancellations in the day or two before the round.

Why this is genuinely hard to catch manually

A cancellation can happen at any hour, and it's rarely announced anywhere. The only way to catch one the old-fashioned way is to keep reloading the course's booking page and hope you're looking at the right moment. That's a real thing people do. It's also the entire reason TeeScout exists, we built it specifically to watch the tee sheet so a person doesn't have to.

How alerts fit in

Set a free alert for the course, date, and time window you want, and TeeScout checks availability around the clock. The moment a matching slot opens, whether it's a fresh release or someone else's cancellation, you get an email or text. No refreshing required. Set one up here.

Disclaimer. Booking windows and cancellation policies vary by course and change over time. Always confirm current policy directly with the course.
